Where were you when I visualised
And tied such knots as you'll never devise
And knitting together quarks out of string
Laid the foundations of everything
Before the passage of second one
I determined the nature and size of the sun
And wrote down the tune for the turn of the year
And prepared you a home so that you could appear
And no sooner here than you followed my lead
And created whatever you thought you might need
And you became proud and decided to shun
The one that designed and stoked up the sun
So tell me oh child that says "I'm not your son"
All that surrounds you, where is it from?
Untie the quarks and let them go free
Then tell me my little one, where will you be?

Old Eagles
Turned on the Eagles yesterday
And suddenly suddenly far away
Though forty years had passed
I saw through
Like looking through glass
On empty winter Saturdays
We'd sit and while the time
The silence broken by
Californian blue sunshine
We'd turn the vinyl over
After 20 minutes or so
Listen to the other side
Then go
And suddenly suddenly far away
Though forty years had passed
I saw through
Like looking through glass
On empty winter Saturdays
We'd sit and while the time
The silence broken by
Californian blue sunshine
We'd turn the vinyl over
After 20 minutes or so
Listen to the other side
Then go

New Year's Day
January One
The planet's back to where it begun
We pause before we journey on
Another lap around the sun
Yet there are bigger orbits here
What do you know of the solar year
How long until the weary Sun
Returns to the place where it begun
In concert with the Milky Way
In nested orbits day by day
We go where we've not been before
Sailing to an unknown shore
Expect the seasons one more time
But don't presume to foresee more
This new year however fine
Shall not pass where we've been before
The planet's back to where it begun
We pause before we journey on
Another lap around the sun
Yet there are bigger orbits here
What do you know of the solar year
How long until the weary Sun
Returns to the place where it begun
In concert with the Milky Way
In nested orbits day by day
We go where we've not been before
Sailing to an unknown shore
Expect the seasons one more time
But don't presume to foresee more
This new year however fine
Shall not pass where we've been before
