In Hope of Dawn

breathing our first in twilight as the daylight quit the fight - newborn eyes saw a final sunset - a dying hope of felicity - and we shed tears though we knew not why - mourning the end of the last day into darkness we turned away - living the life of the blind for want of light by which to see - waiting for a dawn that may never be - in darkness we met - a companion to walk alongside me - loves emissary and a promise of light - together we walk t'ward the dawn that none have yet seen save in dreams - I hold your hand and it is warm - 'till that day  dawn ever I'll be - content in your company

Origins

Sub atomic particles arranged in permutations
Giving rise to elements of varying potentials
Reacting to form compounds in a host of variations
Up to the point of DNA these are the essentials

Amino acids all left handed
By the double helix welded
Making proteins like they planned it
Every one precision folded

So called 'non-coding' DNA
Dismissed as junk - prematurely
Must have a vital role to play
For all things have a purpose surely

He that wrote the rules of time
And sub atomic gravitation
Did so with our life in mind
Should we not show - appreciation

And wonder at the prescience
That gives us air to breathe
And behave with deference
On each day that we live

Hubris

Where were you when I visualised
And tied such knots as you'll never devise
And knitting together quarks out of string
Laid the foundations of everything

Before the passage of second one
I determined the nature and size of the sun
And wrote down the tune for the turn of the year
And prepared you a home so that you could appear

And no sooner here than you followed my lead
And created whatever you thought you might need
And you became proud and decided to shun
The one that designed and stoked up the sun

So tell me oh child that says "I'm not your son"
All that surrounds you, where is it from?
Untie the quarks and let them go free
Then tell me my little one, where will you be?
