Poppies on the battlefield
Where the soldiers fell
Poppies in the shadows
Of buildings I knew well
When a thing is lost
Though people may not care
The soil marks the place
With poppies growing there
When all are lost and all are gone
And left to see it there are none
And the fate of man is sealed
The world will be a poppy field

Personal Weather
There is a cloud that dims the sun
But not the sun of everyone
The brightness of a summer day
Reproduced as shades of gray
Subjectively dim
To him
In spite of warmth on skin
But not the sun of everyone
The brightness of a summer day
Reproduced as shades of gray
Subjectively dim
To him
In spite of warmth on skin

Decreasing Circles
I sink into the earth
A little more each passing day
Eventually I'll lie beneath
The soil and the clay
I find myself contented
No matter how reduced the view
For still I have the sky above
And today the sky is blue
As I sink horizons shrink
I relinquish care and yearning
And look ever to the sky
Where my friend the sun is burning
Yet but a little time must pass
Before the fall shall be reversed
And all once more will walk upon
The circle of the earth
A little more each passing day
Eventually I'll lie beneath
The soil and the clay
I find myself contented
No matter how reduced the view
For still I have the sky above
And today the sky is blue
As I sink horizons shrink
I relinquish care and yearning
And look ever to the sky
Where my friend the sun is burning
Yet but a little time must pass
Before the fall shall be reversed
And all once more will walk upon
The circle of the earth
