Perceptions of Time & Mortality #2 - The Ephemeropter

Transcendence in the twilight
A special quality of light
Attraction to the realm of wings
Forsaking congress with scales and fins
At the juncture of air and water
The neonate ephemeropter

Morning sun is beckoning
Air is slowly thickening
With multitudes of mayflies
That molt and pause then fly and rise
For them there is no night
Only joy and flight
Lasting until evening
When stamina is dwindling
Flut'ring to their ending
Expiring -  to the future sending
Yet another generation
Born from their obliteration

They have not an inkling - of what went before
They live and die in one bright day
And know no less - no more
Than what it is to fly then die
In a mayfly paradigm
That has no name for you nor I
In ignorance sublime

To all you subscribers ...

Your invisibility
Prudent though it may be
Is currently preventing me
From gauging popularity

You've no need to view a page
The counter is not incremented
So I have no way to gauge
Who has read and where they sent it

I don't ask to penetrate
Your precious anonymity
But it would be really great
If you sent a comment to me

"I subscribe to your feed"
Is all it really needs to say
Then you will have filled my need
And can get on with your day

If you leave a comment too
You'll have my warm appreciation
If not, at least I heard from you
In spite of failed ingratiation

Queueing

I found myself in a crowd
Of people waiting in a queue
There was a gate and one by one
They were called and they went through

I looked at all the people waiting
And it was plain to see
That they all were far more worthy
More worthy by half than me

I wondered how I could get through
I pondered how to get within
I thought they'd surely turn me back
And refuse to let me in

I fretted for an anxious moment
Then a plan occurred to me
Going to the tail of the queue
I stood there very quietly

I stood behind the last in line
As he stepped forward I did too
Till all but he had passed within
And the queue was just we two

One name was called but two slipped through
I hoped my saviour would not mind
As I hid in his shadow
And the gate clanged shut behind

The man called out "who touched my coat?"
One and all they turned to see
As I fell to my knees
With all eyes fixed upon me

His shadow overshadowing
Upon my head I felt his hand
Among the faithful gathering
He told me "rise my little lamb"

"Fear not, inherit what is yours
And all my father planned
For every lamb may pass within
While following the son of man"
